If you are a new parent an SUV is an ideal choice when it comes to transportation.  You'll have the comfort, reliability, efficiency, and safety features, which are all important factors when you are a new parent looking for a vehicle.  SUV's can be expensive, and this is the last thing you need when there is an additional member of the household.  However, there are some affordable and efficient choices to consider when buying a car of this type.  These SUV's offer a great deal and are the most suitable on the market for new parents.

* 2010 Honda CR-V *

This car can certainly be called an affordable model, with a price range of $21, 512 - $29, 536 it is a good deal for an SUV.  It is not classed as a fun to drive car, but it is reliable and predictable, which is what a new parent needs.  The overall performance is described as good with accurate steering, it's a comfortable ride.  The Honda CR-V received good ratings when safety tests were carried out, frontal, rear, and side impact results faired good with this SUV.  Other safety features include, front and rear side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake Distribution, and Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control.  The two wheel drive version does 21 city and 27 mpg highway, which isn't too bad for an SUV.

* 2010 Jeep Compass *

The Jeep Compass is top of the list when it comes to fuel efficiency, at 23 city and 28 highway there aren't many other SUV's that will top this one.  It also has an affordable price tag too, at $18, 823 as a starting price you can't really go wrong.  Safety features include Brake Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Electronic Stability Control and Hill Start Assist.  The Compass isn't the best car to look at and the interior isn't up to much either, however it is reliable and one of the most efficient SUV's on the market.

* 2010 Nissan Rogue *

First introduced in 2008 this SUV looks quite stylish for a vehicle of this type.  The Nissan Rogue is most definitely affordable for new parents, as the price starts at $20, 229.  When it comes to fuel economy you are looking at 22 city and 27 mpg on the highway.  It is a family car that is comfortable for both the driver and passengers.  This SUV also has a very nice interior and provides a good deal of cargo space.  The Rogue is a must for new parents who want affordability plus efficiency.

* 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid *

You can't ignore a hybrid when you are looking for an efficient SUV, and the Ford Escape is one of the best you will find.  The reliability and performance of this SUV is much to be admired, and it's capabilities are not any less even though it is a hybrid.  The 32 mpg that this vehicle gets will impress any new parent, saving on fuel is a huge advantage.  At a starting price of $29, 311 the Escape is a little more expensive than some other cars of this type, but that being said, it is well worth the money.  When you think about it, the price is still under $30, 000, and you guaranteed to get an efficient car, that will save you money on fuel alone.

* 2010 Mercury Mariner Hybrid *

The Mariner Hybrid is a very efficient model and worth considering if you are a new parent.  The front wheel drive model does 34 in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.  At $29, 897 there are cheaper SUV's on the market, but not very many that will beat this one for reliability and efficiency.  2010 has brought a lot of new safety features for the Mercury Mariner, some of which are, Active Parking Assist, a rear-view camera system, and a MyKey programmable vehicle key.

Choose any of these five cars and you're guaranteed to not be disappointed.  New parents need a car that is affordable and efficient and all these SUV's fit the bill in both departments.  SUV's are a great family vehicle, and at one time it was difficult to find one that was fuel efficient, but not anymore.  Times have changed for the better, and the SUV is more efficient and reliable now than it ever was, and also affordable too.
