During the winter months, especially if you live in cooler climates, it is common to find the windscreens and the windows of your car covered in ice. There are many ways to remove the ice from your vehicle. Here are the quickest and safest ways to de-ice your car windows.

The first thing to do is to turn on the engine of your car. Then you have to wait for about 10 minutes to warm up before turning the heat on. The car heater will do the job for you. However, heating your windows too quickly causes a drastic temperature change, which could result in worsening any cracks in your windows. Moreover, the traditional method for removing the ice from your windows is to use an ice scraper. Ice scraper is a common tool, consisting of a blade and a plastic handle. A scraper should be in every vehicle, especially during the winter months. This method is as trustworthy, as time consuming. In extremely cold temperatures, while applying this method, your hands will get cold fast. Therefore, you should consider wearing a pair of gloves. Another way to de-ice the windows of your vehicle is by using a de-icing spray. You can buy it from any auto part store and it isn't quite expensive. You should apply the spray on the iced surface and wait for few minutes. These sprays alter the freezing point of water; the ice will begin to break down and it would easier for you to remove it with a scraper.

In order to remove the ice from your wind-shield, consider pouring water on it. This is also an effective, but time consuming process. Water helps the defrosting process. However, keep in mind that only cool water should be used for this method. Pouring hot water will crack your wind-shield, because of the temperature change. In the same vain, you may put about 5 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol into your wind-shield washer reservoir. The rubbing alcohol turns the common wind-shield washer reservoir into a a de-icing agent. On the other hand, there are ways to prevent ice on your windows, before it has a chance to build up. The best way is by simply putting a blanket over your wind-shield at night. Moreover, in order to prevent the ice from forming at all is to to use a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. Use half vinegar and half water in a spray bottle and spray it on your windows at night.
